Spirit Airlines® Launches Non-Stop Service to San Pedro Sula, Honduras
Introductory Fares Starting at $9 Each Way

Spirit Airlines launched non-stop service between its Fort Lauderdale hub and San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Service from Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport initially will be offered three times weekly on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Flights from La Mesa International Airport in Honduras will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Honduras is the third Central American country served by Spirit Airlines, joining the carrier’s Guatemala and Costa Rica destinations. It is the fifth country in Latin America and the 35th destination overall.

Dengue Warning in Honduras

The propagation of dengue fever in Honduras caused local health authorities to decree a state of alert in another four departments in this Central American nation Thursday.

Honduran Public Health Minister Jenny Meza confirmed Francisco Morazan, Cortes, La Paz and Olancho were declared in green alert, while Tegucigalpa, the capital, is already on yellow alert since Wednesday, because of the increase of sick people.

In Tegucigalpa, 22 cases were reported with deadly hemorrhagic dengue fever and more than 800 cases with classic dengue this week alone.

Development of Honduran Culture

Central American education ministers began a two-day meeting in Honduras to combine policies of regional interest, said Honduran Education Minister Marlon Breve.

The meeting, being held at the Tela beach resort, 186 miles north of here, is discussing aspects of the regions situation, and sign agreements to develop a Latin American culture, the minister told the media.

He also said that the minister would sign agreements to strengthen education, and the Central American social and political environment in depth.

The minister said the issues to be discussed would raise cultural diversity, democratic co-existence, socio-cultural and natural environment, ethnicities, and acquisition of values and development of positive attitudes.
