Spain, the mother country of Honduras, has announced that it is not advisable to travel to Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, unless urgent business needs to be conducted, based on the current political situation in Honduras.

The U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa alerts American citizens residing in and traveling to Honduras of the possibility of demonstrations and protests related to a proposed national opinion poll that may be held on Sunday, June 28. The Embassy has no information related to specific protests, which have to date been non-violent and often small in size. All airports and border crossings in Honduras remain open to regular traffic.

IDB Loan for Honduras

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a US$ 50 million credit line to help Honduras improve the road linking the capital Tegucigalpa with Puerto Castilla on the Atlantic Coast (known as the agricultural corridor). The agricultural corridor links the departments of Francisco de Morazán, Olancho, and Colón.
In addition, the road will be integrated into the tourism areas, composed of the localities of El Progreso, Tela, La Ceiba, Sabá, Tocoa and Puerto Castilla.
The project includes paving, repair and maintenance work on a 180 km segment between Gualaco and Puerto Castilla, including rehabilitation of bridges and road safety improvement. Routine maintenance will be carried out by microenterprises involving members of the area’s Pech indigenous community.

TACA not Flying into Honduras

TACA airlines is not landing in Honduras, and is not expected to resume flights any time soon. The airline is issuing refunds for ticketed passengers for TACA and Islena Air passengers.
