In late March, George Wilson Welcome flashed onto the scene with a dramatic deciding goal as Honduras won the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament in Nashville, Tenn.
Welcome’s score in the 108th minute gave the Catrachos a 1-0 victory over the U.S. in the title game. But though the goal was impressive and Welcome himself physically striking, little was known about him before then and not much information has emerged since.
Welcome, a 6-foot-3 former basketball player, went to CD Motagua in Tegucigalpa soon after the qualifying tournament. But after training with Motagua for less than a month, Welcome remains contracted to his hometown club, Arsenal, and is now on trial with the New England Revolution.

Honduran international Amado Guevara said yesterday that he has a long-term contract to play for Toronto FC, and that he could join the team tomorrow.
But the one-time league rookie of the year may be bringing more to the table than just his ability to score from the right side.
Guevara is serving a 30-day suspension from Motagua of the Central American Football League after an altercation with Mario Moncada, the league’s top referee.
And it’s not the first time the 31-year-old right side midfielder has been in trouble with soccer authorities.

Amado Guevara has played in his last game in the Honduran league and bid an emotional farewell to the fans of his club, CD Motagua. The report links him with a return to Major League Soccer, citing Toronto FC specifically.
Guevara, the 2004 MLS MVP, has been playing in Honduras this season and recent reports have indicated that TFC has been negotiating a release from CD Motagua over the past several weeks.
Guevara spent five seasons in the MLS, mainly with the MetroStars but was dealt to Chivas USA prior to the 2006 season where he had a falling out with the coach and was subsequently loaned out. Prior to the loan, TFC tried to acquire Guevara but he blocked the move to Toronto.

Going into friendly matches against Paraguay and Colombia, few would have backed Honduras to overcome either of the South American big hitters. Particularly with the Guaraníes currently atop the region’s qualifying standings ahead of Brazil and Argentina and the Cafeteros’ run of nine games without defeat since the previous summer’s Copa America.
Yet the current batch of Catracho stars are made from sterner stuff than the national team’s disappointing performances in recent years would suggest. Coach Reinaldo Rueda has quietly assembled a talented and hard-working unit comprising perhaps the most gifted generation of Hondurans since that which qualified for the 1982 FIFA World Cup Spain ™.
