CONCACAF SCHEDULE

Honduras plays Haiti at in the Gold Cup on July 4th at Qwest Field.  Kickoff is at 4 p.m. Pacific Time and is a double-header.  Following Honduras, the United States will play Granada at 6 p.m.

The U.S. will also play Honduras in Washington, D.C., on July 8th. Quarterfinal games are July 18 and 19 in Philadelphia and Dallas, respectively. Semifinals will be July 23 in Chicago, and the Gold Cup final is July 26 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

CONCACAF Continues

Honduras’ Reinaldo Rueda summoned 24 players to attend CONCACAF Gold Cup to be held from July 4-25 in several venues at the United States.

Rueda said the squad is comprised of young players and experienced ones as well, though he regretted absences of midfielder Amado Guevara and striker David Suazo.

Guevara recently took Canadian league championship and he needs a rest, while Inter’s Suazo is recovering from an injury.

Those players summoned by Rueda to play Gold Cup must appear at San Pedro Sula on Monday to take a flight to North Carolina on the 25.

Hard Work to Qualify for World Cup

Honduras coach Reinaldo Rueda said he has faith in their chances to get qualified for 2010 South Africa World Cup; still, he stated he won’t even watch it on TV if they fail to get there.

“If Honduras fail to qualify, I won’t go to South Africa, I won’t be there to feel myself tortured; I won’t even watch it on TV,” Rueda said, and his words were published by the local press.

The Colombian coach, who took over Honduras more than two years ago, commented that FIFA invited him to attend some soccer development courses in Mexico and Cuba, but he rejected the proposal because he’s focused on getting qualification for next World Cup.

Another Chance for Seleccion

Neighbors Honduras and El Salvador meet in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday, almost exactly 40 years after the so-called “Football War”.

Honduras will host the match in San Pedro Sula where rivalry on the field will be intense, with both teams attempting to reach their first World Cup since 1982 and only one point separating them in the final stage of the CONCACAF tournament.

Honduras is fourth in the six-team group, with four points from four games. They are only one place below El Salvador who controversially beat Mexico 2-1 on Saturday with a late penalty.
