1 million lempira for deported immigrants

December 28th, 2007 · No Comments

The Attention Center for Deported Immigrants (CAMR) will now count with 1 million lempira that have been transferred to the Deported Hondurans Fund that was approved by the Congress recently.

The fund has the amount of 15 million lempira, but some of these resources will be invested in the repatriation of Hondurans that die outside the country, people who are amputated, and people with serious illnesses, children that are victims of prostitution, drug traffic and illegal immigrants.

The CAMR spends about two million of lempira each year by taking care of the deported immigrants from the United States, offering them food, coffee and transportation to their places of origin around the country.

The representative from CAMR, Valdette Willeman, said that this fund Hill be managed by the Chancellery, the Honduran National Migration Forum (FONAMIH), and the Migration Network.
She also said that this million will not cover the total expenses of the return deported immigrants, nevertheless, it’s a really important help, since the dependency absorbed all the expenses before.

She then added that the one million lempira will be used for the transportation only, since the Catholic Church will be in charge of food and shelter.

She also said a flight bringing 120 deported immigrants costs 4,000 to 5,000 lempira only in transportation.

99,000 Hondurans have been deported this year from the United States via airlines. The number of deported immigrants in 2007 was over 24,000 Hondurans.
