TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras
Carlos Polo, Population Research Institute director for Latin America approached the Cardinal about his remarks to time magazine which conflicted with Pope Benedict over the issue of communion for pro-abortion politicians.
In a recent interview with Time magazine, Cardinal Rodriguez was asked if he agreed with bishops who deny Holy Communion to pro-abortion politicians. The Cardinal responded, “”Who am I to deny Holy Communion to a person? I cannot. It’s in the tradition of moral theology that even if I know a person is living in grave sin, I cannot take a public action against him. It would be giving scandal to the person. Yes, he should not seek [communion], but I cannot deny it from him.”

Taiwan, El Salvador and Honduras signed a trilateral free trade agreement in San Salvador May 7. Taiwan’s fourth such agreement with Central American countries, the FTA was expected to boost trade among the three countries, ROC Minister of Economic Affairs Chen Ruey-long said in a May 5 report by Taiwan’s Central News Agency.
Government representatives signing the FTA were Chen, Salvadoran Minister of Economy Yolanda Mayora de Gavidia, and Honduran Minister of Industry and Commerce Elizabeth Azcona Bocock, a May 8 MOEA press release stated. Honduran President Jose Manuel Zelaya Rosales and Salvadoran President Elias Antonio Saca Gonzalez attended the signing ceremony as honorable guests.

Five Latin American journalists, with U.S. help, are getting the chance to report firsthand on the many programs supported by the United States and the international community to fight global hunger and malnutrition.
U.S. official Gaddi Vasquez will accompany the journalists on the U.S.-sponsored media tour to Guatemala and Honduras May 13-18. He told USINFO May 8 that the trip aims to increase “visibility” for the anti-hunger efforts of the United States and the international community in Central America and around the world -– a world in which someone dies of hunger every five seconds. The five journalists are from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador and Mexico.

Rebeca Santos, the Honduran Minister of Finance and the President of the Board of Directors at Hondutel, has revoked the authority of Marcelo Chimirri, second in command at Hondutel. He continues acting in the name of Hondutel, but all the agreements made by him in 2007 have been nullified by the board of directors.
This action by the Board has vast legal repercussions for the cases that are in the courts of justice due to interventions that Chimirri made in the name of Hondutel — specifically to the companies that he claimed committed acts of telephone piracy.
