Honduras President Claims Unfair Coverage

May 25th, 2007 · No Comments

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras

Honduran President Manuel Zelaya has ordered the nation’s broadcasters to carry two hours of government-sponsored programming every day.

Zelaya said the decision was based on what he said was unfair coverage his government has received in recent months.

Zelaya said the revised programming was a temporary measure.

Starting next Monday, TV and radio stations will carry two hours of programming feature Zelaya and other Honduran lawmakers.

The president tried to get the Honduran Congress to pass a law last month banning publication of stories about violent crime in the country.
