We ask that you would present this letter to the American consulate in Tegucigalpa ASAP where you will apply for a B1/B2 visa. We hope to see you soon as does your mother. We will be seeking humanitarian parole as well

Higher Fees for Immigrants

Starting July 30, immigrants applying for citizenship, green cards and other services will pay nearly twice as much as they do now under a plan officials promised will transform the nation’s chief immigration agency into a more efficient operation.

The new fees for citizenship and immigration services - which will double the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ $1.25 billion budget - are aimed at speeding up the processing of paperwork. But critics suggested the substantial hikes could put the squeeze on immigrants.

Mining Terrorism in Honduras

“We’ve been here for seven years,” explains Pedro Rodolfo Arteaga, gesturing at a scattering of plain houses lining a dirt road, “and we never thought we would find ourselves in this situation.” A resident of Palo Ralo, in the Siria Valley in central Honduras, Arteaga explains that “the old village was inside the perimeter of where the company wanted to put their machinery, and we were obstacles for them.”

Palo Ralo is a village constructed in 1999 to house 14 families who were displaced from their original village to make way for the San Martin mine, an open pit gold and silver mine owned by Vancouver’s Goldcorp, one of the largest gold companies in the world.

Confidence in Zelaya Down

Fewer adults in Honduras express confidence in the performance of Manuel Zelaya, according to a poll by CID-Gallup. 50 per cent of respondents say the president always or almost always does what is best for the country, down 16 points since January.

In November 2005, Zelaya—candidate of the Liberal Party (PL)—won the presidential election with 49.9 per cent of all cast ballots, defeating National Party (PN) nominee Porfirio Lobo Sosa. Less than 69,000 votes separated the two contenders. Zelaya took office in January 2006.
