Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian invited Honduran President Manuel Zelaya Rosales on Wednesday to visit Taiwan in October to attend National Day celebrations.
Chen extended the invitation while receiving Roberto Micheletti Bain, president of the National Congress of Honduras. He said he had a pleasant chat with Zelaya when they attended the inauguration ceremony for Costa Rican President Oscar Arias in May.
Expressing confidence that the political and economic development of Honduras will continue to improve under Zelaya’s leadership, Chen pledged that Taiwan will support Honduras’ development projects, including a hydraulic power generation project.
Chen pointed out that the leaders of Taiwan and Honduras have maintained frequent exchanges of visits.
