New Plant in Honduras

August 22nd, 2006 · No Comments

DULUTH, Ga. (AP) - Clothing maker Delta Apparel Inc. said Friday it plans to open an offshore textile manufacturing plant in Honduras.

Ceiba Textiles, a 300,000 square-foot facility in San Pedro Sula, will knit, dye, finish, cut and sew fabrics into apparel, primarily for the activewear segment.

The clothing maker will invest about $25 million in the plant, which it will lease from Green Valley Industrial Park. It will pay roughly $15 million in the next three years for new equipment for the project.

Delta said the plant is expected to save it about $1 million pre-tax in 2008 and result in annual savings of $7 million once it is at full capacity in 2009.

The company expects the facility to be completed next year, with production starting in the first quarter of fiscal 2008. Delta anticipates production of 500,000 pounds per week during 2008, which will ramp up to 1 million pounds per week the following year.
