Tegucigalpa Receives Fire Engine

May 30th, 2006 · No Comments

World Emergency Relief (WER-US) has donated a fire engine to the Tegucigalpa Fire Department in Honduras. Part of WER’s continued support of Honduras and its communities, this latest addition to the fleet is a first response unit, fully equipped with a high pressure water pump, rescue equipment, and equipment for managing hazardous materials incidents. It formerly served the Strathclyde Fire Brigade in Glasgow, Scotland.

WER’s overall strategy for Honduras also includes a newly built, full service medical clinic operated by firefighters and EMT personnel in the heart of Tegucigalpa, the country’s capital. Later this year, WER expects to also fund a mobile command center that the Bomberos can deploy anywhere throughout the country.

Coordinated by WER’s office in Tegucigalpa, the Carlsbad agency also funded a Honduras-based response team that sent local firefighters, medical relief workers and other volunteers into the hurricane-devastated countryside in late 2005.

WER’s CEO and Founder, Joel MacCollam, himself a former volunteer fireman, shared, “we are committed to helping the Honduras national fire service do their difficult job with the resources, supplies and support they need to serve their communities.”

World Emergency Relief is a global family of six charities sharing a common vision and core values, working together with local and indigenous nonprofit organizations to fight poverty and hunger, and provide relief for victims of disaster, conflict and despair. Our vision is “giving children a living chance”, by addressing the practical, emotional, spiritual and economic needs of children, their families and communities.
