Honduran Industry and Trade Ministry Elizabeth Azcona released Friday that her government will sue the European Union (EU) before the World Trade Organization (WTO) for imposing drastic measures on banana exports.
Azcona explained that Honduras has lost in the European market thousands of crates of bananas, its main export item, because of the 176 euro tariff on this product, in force since January 2006.
That measure affects 12,000 people basically living on banana activities. The official asserted her nation was ready to challenge the new tariff at the WTO and push for a lower one, without specifying the date.
