Tegucigalpa, Mar 20 (Prensa Latina) Casa Alianza, a humanitarian organization, announced the start of the “Break the Circle” campaign in Honduras Monday to try to curb the increased drug-addiction of children and warning of the danger of selling glue to minors.
Jose Manuel Capellin, Casa Alianza director in Honduras, where poverty reaches 80 percent of the population, said an alarming number of between 25,000 and 30,000 children inhale adhesive substances in Honduras.
The campaign, addressed to urban areas, seeks that salespeople refuse to sell chemical products to minors.
Capellin said they would demand application of Honduran legislation, establishing sanctions for those who supply glue or drug addictive products to children.
Recent studies by Casa Alianza revealed 99 percent of the children cared for by this organization in recent years were using this kind of product.
The humanitarian activist said that research in different local communities showed a great many primary and intermediate school students -in both private and public schools- frequently sniff glue.
